About

I am a former cable news producer who is just starting a career as a Public Diplomacy officer in the U.S. Foreign Service. I am currently in Washington, D.C., training for my first post in Bangui, the Central African Republic.

This blog is primarily a means to keep people back home in the U.S. informed (and hopefully entertained) as my adventures unfold. It is NOT a space for commentary on U.S. policy, foreign or domestic, and any opinions are mine and mine alone. They are not in any way meant to reflect the opinions or policy of the U.S. Government. In keeping with that theme, I will not be discussing many details of my job; rather, I will stick to my life and travels outside of work. But hopefully there will be enough non-work adventures to keep everyone interested and entertained!

Enjoy!

  1. Hi! I am interested in becoming a Foreign Service Officer in the near future. Would you mind giving me any tips about the application process? How is the job truly (in my mind it seems amazing!). Are there any downsides to consider, besides of course the obvious ones like war, etc? Any opinions you have on it would be greatly appreciated! I am eager to learn some more information about this career I am considering going into to make sure it is really what I want to do 🙂

    Thanks,
    Sabrina

    • Hi Sabrina!
The Foreign Service is a great career, as long as uncertainty and change doesn’t stress you out too much – there’s lots of it in this job. But if that doesn’t bother you, it’s truly exciting (at least so far – I’ve been in less than 3 years). As for the application process, it’s intense and can be long – if you think you’re interested, I’d apply ASAP. You can always decide not to go through with it if you decide along the way that it’s not for you. I’ll shoot you an email with a bit more.
      Kelli
